Regulations of the Center for Education in Religious Culture (abstract)
Enacted on 9 January 2011
Objectives
Article 1: The Center for Education in Religious Culture (CERC) was established
with the purpose of promoting the qualitative improvement of education
in religious culture in Japan. In particular, it aims at fostering elementary
knowledge about, and the capacity to understand Japanese and world religious
cultures at higher education level.
Activities
Article 2: The CERC operates the following:
1. Activities related to the certification of ‘religious culture specialist’.
2. Activities promoting education in religious culture.
Certification of Religious Culture Specialist
Article 11: The qualification of religious culture specialist was set up in order for the CERC to reach its objectives and is intended for university students and university graduates.
Article 12: The qualification of religious culture specialist is awarded by the CERC to those who have acquired a certain number of university credits and have passed the certification examination.

Article 13: The executive director of the center is responsible for all
activities related to the certification of religious culture specialist.
Ethical requirements for religious culture specialists
Article 14: The holders of a certificate of religious culture specialist will not use it as a tool to criticize a specific religion.
Article 15: The holders of a certificate of religious culture specialist will not use it as a tool of proselytism and indoctrination according to the principles of a specific religion.
Article 16: Those who, by seriously infringing the above regulations, have become subjects of social criticism may have their religious culture specialist certificate revoked by the CERC.

Other activities
Article 17: Activities that are related to the CERC’s objectives but which are not included in Article 2 will be undertaken after discussion with the steering committee.
